Red Deer Regional Airport is seeking those interested in moving and preserving 3 long-standing buildings

BACKGROUND

Originally built in WWII as an allied training base, the Red Deer Regional Airport is now owned and operated by the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority. It is home to more than 20 aviation tenants, including the Red Deer Flying Club, CASARA, and Harvard Historical Aviation Society (HHAS).

The first Red Deer Aero Club (Red Deer Flying Club) was formed in 1930 and has been an active and instrumental voice of general aviation in Central Alberta. Red Deer Regional Airport Authority has been proud to support the Red Deer Flying Club, CASARA, and HHAS each year with facility use and financial support to continue to allow these groups to host ongoing projects/events that bring awareness to general aviation, aviation history, and safety. Red Deer Regional Airport Authority will continue to support these groups through financial support and event partnership in order to assist them with the promotion of aviation in our community.

With a strong history of aviation in our region, the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority is excited about the future of aviation expanded airport services and continues to support the operations of our tenants. The commencement of phase one of the three-phase project is to start in May 2022, with an expected completion date of early 2023. This will include an expanded runway, and taxiway that apron and will allow for other aviation growth opportunities.

OPPORTUNITY

As a result of these positive developments, the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority has considered many options and is now faced with the decision to move three long-standing buildings onsite. This includes two two-story houses and the Red Deer Flying Club building. Due to the age and financial resources necessary to maintain these buildings, the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority has made the decision to remove them.

Central Albertans who are interested in moving and preserving one or all of these buildings, can submit proposals to Graham Ingham at the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority, at g.ingham@flyreddeer.com. Those individuals or organizations willing to take over responsibility for these buildings will be required to remove them from the property by July 15, 2022.

It must be understood that these buildings could be difficult to move, due to their size and age. As a result, there may be significant costs and effort associated with this opportunity.

It must be understood that this opportunity is based on a first come first served basis, and as such, it is incumbent on those interested in this opportunity to contact the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority as soon as possible. All expressions of interest received prior to May 15, 2022, will be reviewed and the parties notified.

Thank you once again for your interest in the Red Deer Regional Airport, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
